Integration
Having a deep understanding of a portfolio's full risk exposure is indispensable to achieving sustainable, risk-adjusted returns over the long term. By integrating ESG criteria, the Pension Fund Swiss Re ensures that material ESG risks and opportunities are taken into account. This starts with the way asset managers are selected and monitored, and extends to the integration of ESG benchmarks and the exercising of shareholder voting rights.

Although the Pension Fund Swiss Re and Swiss Re have numerous parallels in this respect, there are some differences due to the different asset allocation and the asset managers appointed.
To ensure that ESG criteria are integrated, the Pension Fund Swiss Re has introduced ESG monitoring and reporting processes for all single-investor funds and Swiss real estate direct investments. These processes are reviewed annually.
The single-investor fund are subject to the applicable exclusion lists. Compliance with the exclusion lists is mandatory for the managers of these portfolios.
In appointing external mandates, moreover, signatories to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment are given preference, other qualifications being equal.
